Genji Shoppe; When the Creativity, Innovation and Hard Working are United.

Genji.
Genji Pie...
Monde Biscuit.

Does the name ring your bell? ... kring...kring....
Yeah! Right. It's the only heart shaped biscuit with pie textures.
Simple, crunchy, not too sweet. A perfect balance.

I felt very familiar with this kind of biscuit during my high school and college time, years ago, when I stayed far from my parents. This is the biscuit that could cure my longing of the homemade sweets.

and...  the good news spread.
The Genji Shoppe is opened, yes, here in Jakarta and luckily... it's not too far from our home!
It's an exclusive dessert pop-up store, meaning open for a short term only, from the famous brand of Monde Biscuit Indonesia.

I was 100% curious, what the shoppe is. From the name that using 'shoppe' instead of 'shop', I imagined a store with an old-fashioned charm. Let's see.
The other question that was flying in my mind was... What kind of food they sell there? ...Let's see then. One thing for sure; this place has become a trending topic among Indonesian FoodBloggers.

So, here is the story...
One fine Monday morning (21/04), together with 3 other FoodBloggers, I managed to visit this place.

Three steps colorful-strips staircase sending us to the store area. Looking closely, aha... it is created by 6 different colors of tapes. (Can you name them?) It is a very nice eye-catching color-tape arts.

The shoppe... oh simply beautiful.
It's not a permanent building, but all parts were designed and created with very careful details.
Both the exterior and interior walls are decorated by very artistic hand-painted murals. All of them showing the happiness senses. Very-very creative and original, I have to say.

The vintage ambiance can be felt inside and outside the shoppe, dominated by black-white-grey with minimal colors.

Those amazing art decorations around the shoppe were done by five Indonesian young talented artists;
Rukmunal Hakim (an illustrator), Lala Bolang (an illustrator and writer), Ykha Amlez (an illustrator), Muhamad Taufik (an illustrator, water color specialist) and Monica Hapsari (a multi-talented artist).
Hopefully their creativity can encourage the young generation to explore their self-potential and pursue their dream.

It's getting warmer outside, now... let's go inside the Shoppe.
The pastry aroma welcoming our steps entering the shoppe, which is dominated by white color with little touch of blue. Clean, cozy and very organized.

The nine framed-pictures of the tempting desserts are displayed nicely on the wall. All dishes are named creatively. You will find out soon.

We found it was hard to control our eyes to stop moving and exploring every corners of the shoppe.
The murals, the souvenirs, the biscuits, and other decoration elements are displayed in perfect spot.

After happy exploring every corners of the shoppe, the hungry tummy started to call.
Yei... it's time to try the colorful tempting desserts. Time to eat...

This Is Not a Martini
IMG_6024genjiA

No, it is not a Martini.
Serving in tall martini glasses, the soft layered of white and chocolate mousse looks very appetizing. Some small heart Genji Pie Biscuits accompanying the mousse.
Just dip the crunchy original biscuit into the duo flavor mousse, and we would find a perfect balance of the flavor and also the texture.
I think this is one of the creative menu available.
*Rp. 25.000,-

Magic Cinnamon Pie
IMG_6113genji

It's a kind of fruit sandwich.
The chopped assorted spiced fruits are placed between two crispy Genji pastry.
This pretty dessert have a good combination between the sweet and sour juicy fruits with the crispy pastry. Very refreshing.
*Rp. 28.000,-

When Sour Meets Choco
IMG_6168genji

This is a big bless for the chocolate lover.
Layers of Genji heart pie biscuits and chocolate malt enriched with hazelnut and covered with rich chocolate ganache. Not done yet. It is served with spring fruit salad.
We shall find the harmonized flavor in every bites.
*Rp. 32.000,-

Smokey Burkiny
IMG_6105genjiT

If you come with a hungry tummy... this is a perfect menu to choose. I can't categorize this menu as a dessert. Rather it should be an appetizer or even a main course.
It's tasty chicken burger with smokey barbecue sauce, lettuce, cherry tomato on the top of the crispy Genji pie. Taste very good, rich of flavor. I can say, it is a perfect marinating burger.
*Rp. 28.000,- /3 pcs.

A Bag of Loves or A Jar of Hearts
IMG_6042genjiT

Two types of sandwich biscuits; salty caramel and chocolate chili.
Both have their own unique flavor.
This dessert is a perfect choice while spending your time with your friends with non stop chatting.
*Rp 20.000,-/ 100gr.

Ratatouille Goes Berries

IMG_6054genjiA

A beautiful delicious individual pie.
The Genji base crust is filled with creamy delicious cream cheese and topped with sliced fresh strawberry and blueberry. Sounds good? Your mouth is watery now?
This is my very favorite.
I love the balance flavor between the cream cheese and the crust, and also the textures; they complete each others, combined nicely.
*Rp. 25.000,-

The Corleone's
IMG_6133genji

Actually Corleone is the name of a small town in Sicily, Italy. Remember The Godfather movie? Don Corleone? Marlon Brando?
So... that is the clue to understand this menu. Yeah... it is a mini pizza with Genji pie as the pizza base.
We can choose one flavor or mix them together.
Spicy salami with melted cheese or melted cheese with chopped mushroom.
This is a clever idea to serve a savory dessert. Delicious.
Rp. 28.000,-/ 6 pcs.

Sleeping Beauty
IMG_6189genji2

IMG_6171genji

This pretty pink soft dessert is categorized as a la minute dessert.
Meaning; it is made fresh when we order.
The flavor and texture remind me to an Indonesian traditional steam cake called 'Bolu Kukus'.
We learn the Mini Genji Pie is hidden inside the moist strawberry sponge cake. With the moist texture and served with strawberry and chocolate sauce, it is supposed to be in a perfect state and most joyous taste immediately after it is served.
Unfortunately we were too busy taking pictures, upps...
*Rp. 25.000,-

GenjiA

There is one more dessert that we had no chance to try.
Sweet Sweet Love. Sounds so delicious.
Unlucky, one of the important ingredients; i.e. raspberries, were not available at that time.
It's a raspberry tart served with brownies and fresh raspberries in between two original Genji Pies.
Oh... really tempting.

For about two more weeks, the shoppe is still open.
Bring you family and friends, enjoy the place and the food. It's a nice place to share the food and celebrate the friendship. Like us, 4 Foodbloggers who spent 3 hours enjoying this Shoppe.
