Delicacies from Our Short Visit to Chinatown.

Just a week before Chinese New Year, we made a short trip to Jakarta's China Town.
Visiting the Petak Sembilan area, in Glodok, Jakarta, the place where so many good Chinese food are available. My daughter was so excited to buy the delicious kwotie (semi fried-steamed dumpling), one of the best in town.

The Chinatown atmosphere became more special at that time, when we saw so many people were busy preparing the big day, went shopping and there were so many special new year items available.

Again, it's a good experience for us to visit Chinatown. It's all about the uniqueness, the strong culture, the colorful place, the smoky temple, the steamy food stall, and delicious culinary.

And yes... we brought home some delicacies; the soft kwotie with crispy part on its bottom, crunchy cempedak pies, some fresh fruits and the Chinese new year popular delicacy, Nian Gao a.k.a Kue Keranjang.

So, here our steamed Nian Gao coated by steamed grated coconut.
Since 2012, after I got the recipe from Eliza Adam's blog, almost every Chinese New Year, I prepared this meal. I think this is the perfect way to prepare the Nian Gao, better than frying it.
"So, by following Eliza instruction written on her blog, for this cake, I just cut it in square, steamed it (don't forget to grease the steamer with oil before putting the cake), and at the same time I steamed shredded coconut with pinch of salt. After the cake was soft enough and the shredded coconut was cooked well, then I mixed them together... and tarraaa...
Delicious Steamed Nian Gao with Shredded Coconut is ready! It is soft and chewy, sweet and tasty, so yummy!" ... my blogpost
Here, some quick pictures during our afternoon walk in the Chinatown.
