Living in the capital city of the most populous Muslim country in the world, all the Jakartans can feel the difference between normal days and the days during Ramadhan.
Some important aspects of our daily life are effected, from the time activities (office and school hour), traffic, and also the price of the raw food (especially meat are on the highest price during this time).

After all, for me it's once a year tradition. And now, I'm so ready to enjoy this city with my family during Idul Fitri, since almost half of Jakartans join the annual mass exodus. This exodus tradition (known as Mudik) that is very famous in this country, when millions of Indonesians leave the cities where they work / live to return to their village / hometown to celebrate Idul Fitri with their relatives.
So, if you want to enjoy Jakarta peacefully, less traffic, less pollution,... now is the perfect time!
One thing that interesting to be enjoyed during the month of Ramadhan is the staple fruit of the Middle East; Dates (Arabic: Qorma, Indonesian language: kurma). Most of the supermarket in Jakarta is currently being flooded by many types of dates.
If you wonder why dates are popular during Ramadhan, you can read the good explanation here. Interesting to know about that.
Since it's very easy and cheap to buy this fruit at this time, I decided to bake this 'cake' that actually is familiar for me, because my mom used to bake this 'cake' for us many times.
I just needed to reduce the amount of sugar because the dates that I bought is sweet already.
I like the clever combination between the coarse crunchy texture of the crumbs and the gluey soft date paste. Also the flavor is perfectly match, tasty combination of brown sugar, butter, and oat sandwich the sweet dates with the hint of lime paste.
My son calls it, Heavenly Cake.
